Planning Doors, Levellers and Vehicle Access at a Logistics Facility

Planning a warehouse or distribution centre: dock count, leveller capacity, daily door cycle load and the vehicle entry lane, all settled before the concrete.

Planning Doors, Levellers and Vehicle Access at a Logistics Facility

Choosing the same door or duty class for every passage confuses the entrance queue with internal forklift traffic. This guide creates separate decisions for vehicle entry, internal passages, despatch doors and loading points. The dealer and facility/project teams provide traffic and building data; Alkur does not conduct site surveys, installation or on-site service.

Define the flow before selecting products

  1. Identify each passage. Give every entrance, internal corridor, despatch door and dock its own reference. Show pedestrian and vehicle routes on the same layout.
  2. Record peak periods. Include vehicle type, daily totals, peak-hour crossings, movement time and queues. A shift average alone does not select motor or barrier capacity.
  3. Match load and environment. Assign forklift self-weight plus cargo, vehicle bed height, temperatures on both sides and required separation to each point.
  4. Check building dependencies. The project team assesses openings, overhead services, vehicle turns, platform/lip contact, pit drawings and cabling. Confirm the relevant drawing before concrete or asphalt.
  5. Select motor and control scope. Match mechanics, motor, controller/limits, safety and access together; detecting vehicle presence does not authorise passage.
  6. Assign decision owners. The facility confirms usage, project parties building/electrical design, and the dealer product/installation scope. Close missing inputs before finalising the order configuration.

Keep dock distinctions intact

NORMDOCK’s 6 000 kg dynamic / 9 000 kg static figures are not alternative moving-load ratings. Record forklift plus cargo and verify crossing suitability against conditions. The 2 000 × 2 500 mm and 2 000 × 3 000 mm platform names alone do not establish forklift manoeuvring space or vehicle suitability. Their separate pit drawings show 80 × 80 mm angle and 50 mm conduit with their own dimensions.

Recommended +32 / −32 cm refers to ramp travel, not pit depth. A 600 mm standard/1 000 mm optional telescopic lip is not a vehicle-to-building gap. The hinged brochure’s single/three-flap (1+2) option does not establish telescopic movement or speed.

Assess door duty and vehicle entry separately

NORMTOR lists 15 000 standard and 25 000/50 000/100 000 optional spring cycles. These are not installed-door years or motor duty limits. The GYK-92SY document’s GYM100S-2 label “S2 20% (10 minutes continuous operation)” does not establish two minutes of movement/four cycles for every door; movement time, load and thermal conditions need separate confirmation.

The roll-up HPVC specification lists 0.65–0.70 m/s without an inverter and up to 1.5 m/s with one; the folding type lists up to 1.5 m/s with an inverter. These speeds do not produce the same waiting or energy result at every opening; assess open time and safe passage together.

For FRIG 4000–5000/6000–7000 and TROYA 4000–5000/6000–7000, use current model documents, not old DINAMIX timings. Design loop cabling and detection area against the selected detector manual. Keep detection separate from weighbridge/card/plate access permission.

Output: a passage decision schedule

For each point, record identity, traffic profile, load/height/temperature data, product-motor-controller choice, drawing/document identity, infrastructure responsibility and open confirmations. The dealer and project parties track decisions in one schedule. A missing dimension at one door or drawing at one dock then remains a specific open issue rather than a facility-wide assumption. Transfer confirmed configurations to ordering and handover records.
