What is a high-speed PVC door and where is it used?

A high-speed PVC door (HPVC) is an industrial door system made of a flexible PVC curtain that opens and closes within seconds. Its high speed minimises the transfer of heat, dust and air between indoor and outdoor environments, reducing energy loss and speeding up forklift traffic. ALKUR HPVC doors, with their durable curtain and quiet motor hardware, are used confidently in food, cold-storage, pharmaceutical, automotive and logistics facilities.

How to choose the right high-speed PVC door

The key criteria are: opening dimensions, opening speed (according to passage frequency), usage intensity (daily cycle count), environmental conditions (food, cold storage, exterior) and colour. The ALKUR HPVC family is offered in two types:

  • ALKUR Roll Type High-Speed PVC — winds the curtain onto a drum, suited to high cycle counts
  • ALKUR Folding Type High-Speed PVC — gathers the curtain by folding it at the top

Both types come ready for automation with r-tec RAPID motors and control units. To determine the most suitable curtain, size and hardware for your facility together, you can request a quotation by sharing your opening dimensions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below we've compiled the most common questions and answers regarding this product.

  • What determines the price of a high-speed PVC door?

The total cost is driven by the clear opening dimensions, the curtain type and colour, the opening speed, the motor and control-unit selection and the safety accessories. Because it varies with each application, every project is calculated to measure. For a precise quote you can share your opening dimensions and request a project-specific quotation.

  • What is a high-speed PVC (HPVC) door and what is it for?

A high-speed PVC door is an industrial door made of a flexible PVC curtain that opens and closes within seconds. Its high speed minimises the transfer of heat, dust and air between indoor and outdoor environments, speeds up forklift traffic and reduces energy loss. It is widely used in food, cold-storage, pharmaceutical, automotive and logistics facilities.

  • What is the difference between the roll (spiral) type and the folding type?

The ALKUR Roll Type winds the curtain onto a drum and suits high cycle counts, making it ideal for frequently used passages. The folding type gathers the curtain by folding it at the top. Both share the same high-speed operating principle; the choice depends on opening size, usage intensity and the available installation space.

  • In which sectors are high-speed PVC doors used?

They are preferred in food production and cold storage (hygiene and temperature separation), pharmaceutical and clean-room applications, automotive and logistics facilities, and internal passages with heavy forklift traffic. The curtain and hardware are selected according to the hygiene, insulation and speed needs of the environment.

  • Which motor and control unit are used on a high-speed PVC door?

High-speed PVC doors run with the r-tec RAPID motor series and a suitable control unit (for example the FU inverter or the I-380 three-phase kit). The motor and control selection depends on the door weight, opening speed and electrical infrastructure; safety accessories such as photocells and signal lamps can be added.
