The standard driver behind the ALKUR HPVC fast PVC door is the r-tec RAPID 85. With its 85 Nm torque class, 2.0 m/s high opening speed and integrated Ø140 aluminium drum, it takes on the role of key drive motor for cold chain, food production, pharmaceutical facilities and industrial lines that demand fast passage. Depending on the site’s infrastructure, it runs with either an FU (220 V) or an I-380 (380 V) control board.
HPVC + RAPID 85 — system logic
HPVC door wraps PVC fabric vertically onto a drum — soft fabric is used instead of conventional sectional door panels. This architecture means:
- High speed — 2.0 m/s = ~5 times that of standard sectional (0.4 m/s)
- Interior climate protection — Fast passage = minimum cold air escape
- Drum wrapping — Fabric is wrapped 3-4 turns on Ø140 aluminium drum
- Soft start mandatory — Hard start wears the fabric
RAPID 85 is specifically designed for this architecture; installing conventional sectional motors on HPVC shortens fabric + drum life.
FU vs I-380 — control selection
| Facility supply | Recommended control | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 220 V single-phase | FU | Generates 3-phase inverter from single-phase (2 200 VA) |
| 3 × 380 V three-phase | I-380 | Direct 3-phase drive, 10% energy efficiency |
| 3 × 230 V three-phase (old facility) | FU | I-380 requires 380 V |
→ New facilities are mostly 380 V three-phase → I-380 primary. Existing residential/small facilities 220 V single-phase → FU mandatory.
Speed importance — cold-chain example
In an HPVC door between cold storage (-25 °C) and shipping area, every second of interior climate escape = energy cost:
- Standard sectional door (0.4 m/s): 3 m height = 7.5 sec open
- HPVC + RAPID 85 (2.0 m/s): 3 m = 1.5 sec open
- Forklift passage frequency 100/day → 600 sec/day vs 150 sec open difference
- Annual energy saving: ~30% cooling load
→ RAPID 85’s 2.0 m/s speed is not just operational speed but direct energy + interior environment control gain.
Target projects
- Cold storage HPVC door (food, pharma, logistics)
- Production line partition door (automotive, white goods)
- Food facility clean area / dirty area separation (hygiene + speed)
- Pharmaceutical sector GMP clean room door
- Fast-passage loading ramp front
- Automotive sub-supplier narrow passage
Field discipline
- Soft start calibration — Ramp duration is set to 1.5-2 sec via FU/I-380 trimpot; harder ramp wears the PVC fabric
- Drum wrap tension — Periodically check fabric tension on Ø140 drum; loose wrap causes fabric crease during opening
- PVC fabric quality — 900 gr/m² standard; reinforced 1100 gr/m² for heavy work or cold chain
- Thermal protection — Motor thermal value monitored on high-frequency open-close (30+ cycles/hour)
- Limit switch — RAPID 85 uses standard limit switch for position control
- Periodic maintenance — Once every 3 months drum wrap + fabric tension + reducer oil check

Frequently Asked Questions
Below we've compiled the most common questions and answers regarding this product.
-
Why is an FU inverter mandatory on a 220 V supply?
RAPID 85 drives an HPVC door up to 2.0 m/s, and at that speed the curtain must not take an impact on starting or stopping. The FU inverter varies frequency to give a soft start and soft stop, and that is what protects the PVC curtain and its seams. On a 220 V single-phase supply, delivering smooth torque to the motor also runs through the inverter. Where a 3 × 380 V three-phase supply exists, direct drive with the I-380 board is possible. So the inverter is not an option but the operating condition of a single-phase installation.

How should the 85 Nm torque and the 4 × 4 m door limit be read together?
The 85 Nm rating, with the integrated Ø140 mm aluminium drum, is classed to run an HPVC door of up to 4 × 4 m at 2.0 m/s. The two figures are not read separately: at the same torque a larger leaf opens more slowly, and asking for higher speed raises the torque requirement. Where the size goes beyond 4 × 4 m, the higher torque classes in the RAPID range (up to 180 Nm) come into consideration. Curtain weight also changes with the vision panel and bottom seal arrangement, so the selection is confirmed against the project dimensions.
