Garage Door Motor Selection Guide — the r-tec PULL Family

Garage motor selection begins by verifying that the door moves correctly. Height, rail arrangement, documented pulling force and usage are then assessed together. This guide shows the dealer’s technical team what the PULL1000, PULL 1200 and PULL 1200L documents establish and what still needs confirmation. r-tec garage door motors
Six steps to select a garage motor
- The technical team checks the door mechanics and spring balance. A motor is not selected to carry the load of an unbalanced door.
- Record opening height and usable rail arrangement. Console length, door height and ceiling clearance are separate fields.
- Check the selected model’s documented pulling force. A value in N is not converted directly into door mass in kilograms.
- Record the busiest period of consecutive movements as well as daily use. A shared garage is not assumed to have the same profile as one home.
- Match photocells, transmitter/receiver, manual operation and automatic closing to the exact model and quoted equipment.
- The technical team verifies limits, safety response and manual operation against the installed system’s manual and records handover results.
The three models at a glance
| Model | Pulling force | Rail | Max. door height |
|---|---|---|---|
| PULL1000 | 1 000 N | Rail drive; length not stated | Not stated in linked PDF |
| PULL 1200 | 1 200 N | Standard | 2.5 m |
| PULL 1200L | 1 200 N | Long (3.7 m) | 3.1 m |
What does pulling force actually tell you?
The PULL1000 technical PDF gives a 1 000 N force class, while the shared PULL 1200 and 1200L table gives 1 200 N. Neither figure can be read directly as door mass, permissible door height or the load remaining for the operator after spring balancing. Assess the measured opening, door construction, spring balance and rail arrangement together when selecting an operator.
Door height and rail length
- PULL1000: The linked technical PDF gives no maximum door height or rail length; check suitability against the current model drawing.
- PULL 1200: The shared table lists a 3.1 m console rail and 2.5 m maximum door height.
- PULL 1200L: The same table lists a 3.7 m console rail and 3.1 m maximum door height.
Rail and chain drive
The PULL1000 technical document’s troubleshooting guide refers to the chain and rail arrangement. The shared PULL 1200 and PULL 1200L technical table identifies both models as chain-mechanism console operators. Check rail position and chain connections against the current installation instructions for the selected model.
Equipment documented for each model
The PULL1000 manual describes an LED display, 220 VAC (±10%) supply, stopping and reversing on an obstacle, an optional photocell and rolling-code remote control. The shared PULL 1200/1200L table lists 230 V supply, chain-console mechanisms, soft start/stop, automatic closing, obstacle recognition and adjustable speed for those models. These documents do not establish an LCD display, two photocell channels or identical lighting equipment as a standard feature of all three. Check exact equipment against the current manual and quotation for the selected model.
Before choosing: check the door’s movement
The NORMTOR garage door specification says torsion springs balance the door’s weight to make manual operation easier. The PULL1000 manual’s initial check asks the installer to put the operator in manual mode, move the door by hand and confirm that the carriage moves along the rail. The linked PULL documents do not define a 50%-open release test. Assess installation and spring adjustment against the current door instructions with a competent installer.
Planning the door and the motor together
For NORMTOR garage sectional doors, select the door dimensions, spring system and operator together. The pulling force in N in the PULL technical documents does not convert by itself into a maximum door mass in kilograms. For larger or more frequently used doors, confirm the operator and controller against the proposed door configuration and current product documents.
Record the model decision
| Record | Documented information | Confirmation needed |
|---|---|---|
| Door and rail | Height, model and console | The linked PULL1000 PDF gives no rail length/maximum height |
| Force | PULL1000: 1 000 N; PULL1200/1200L: 1 200 N | Door balance and actual application suitability |
| Equipment | Quoted photocells, receiver and manual release | Which options are included |
| Handover | Manual/revision, checks and results | Open findings and responsible technical team |
The output is a selection record with door data, PULL model, console dimensions, included accessories and unresolved fields. The dealer can request manufacturer assessment with this record; Alkur does not measure sites or install for end users.

Record templates you can use
Templates are completed by the dealer and technical team; checks follow the device’s own manual.
Commissioning and handover record
Completed by the dealer and trained technicians. Record only checks in the installed model's manual and identify functions that do not apply. This record is not a declaration of conformity.
