Sectional Door or High-Speed PVC Door? Which Is Right for You?

Choosing between a sectional door and a high-speed PVC door takes more than speed or panel thickness. Define the opening’s purpose, traffic profile, available installation space and required performance together. This comparison uses the published technical documents for the NORMTOR industrial sectional door and ALKUR roll-up HPVC door.
Which requirement are you comparing?
A sectional system moves rigid panels along tracks; a roll-up HPVC door winds a flexible curtain onto an overhead drum. Opening speed and waiting time matter in forklift traffic. At an external opening, the panel, seals, site loads and complete-door evidence scope also matter. These inputs do not create a universal indoor/outdoor boundary between the product families; actual location and operating conditions are assessed.
Food, pharmaceutical or cold-environment use alone does not establish a model’s suitability. Share temperature, humidity, cleaning conditions and the required separation with the technical team.
Differences that affect selection
| Decision | ALKUR roll-up HPVC | NORMTOR industrial sectional |
|---|---|---|
| Moving surface | 900 g/m² PVC curtain in the specification | 40 mm polyurethane-filled panel in the specification |
| Opening speed | 0.65–0.70 m/s without an inverter; up to 1.5 m/s with one | Confirmed for the motor and door configuration |
| Opening space | Overhead drum, motor-side and side clearances | Vertical and/or horizontal track space for the lift type |
| Insulation assessment | Environment and required separation are project inputs | Panel values are assessed separately from complete-door performance |
| Usage frequency | Daily and peak-hour traffic inform motor/controller selection | Cycle profile informs motor and spring selection |
| Safety options | Confirm photocell coverage and optional BREAK OUT | Confirm motor, safety equipment and evidence scope together |
The HPVC speed figures refer to the roll-up specification, not every HPVC model. Similarly, a 40 mm panel does not establish the same insulation result for every complete-door size and configuration. Older brochures and specifications may contain different values, so the ordered configuration is confirmed in the quotation file.
Installation space can change the decision
The standard sectional lift form shows 400 mm headroom; different track paths have separate forms. The roll-up HPVC form shows 450 mm headroom and separate motor-side and opposite-side allowances. These are references from those forms; beams, services, motor access and the opening geometry still require checking.
The measurement guide explains W/H and sub-frame references. The lift guide explains the sectional track options.
Five inputs before a quotation
- Clear passage width and height, headroom and both side clearances.
- Vehicles, pedestrian use and daily and peak-hour cycles.
- Indoor/outdoor location, temperature, humidity and cleaning conditions.
- Power supply, motor side, windows and any wicket-door requirement.
- Required performance and the evidence that must match the quoted configuration.
Planning both systems together
If both systems are considered at separate passages or around one opening, check their travel paths, controls and available space together. Combined use is not assumed to be more efficient on every project. Dimensions and the operating profile go through the dealer, distributor or partner handling the project; corporate enquiries can use the contact page.
