A loading dock leaves a gap between the trailer and the building. The NORMDOCK dock shelter surrounds the trailer to help reduce exposure of goods and personnel to outside weather. The protection achieved depends on the vehicle, docking position and site; it is not a complete seal or a quantified energy-saving guarantee.

The fabric: Cloth that speaks in standards

The manufacturer’s 2015 REV03 specification lists DIN 53352, DIN 53356 and DIN 75200 requirements for the PVC fabric. It states 3 mm thickness, 900 g/m² and 1,100 DTEX, plus 2,188 N tear resistance and 2,300 N/5 cm breaking strength. Anti-static and stain-resistant properties are also requirements in that specification. These figures are not an independent test certificate or HACCP/GMP qualification; the offered fabric and the facility’s hygiene requirements must be checked together.

Frame and dimensions

The fabric is carried on a hot-dip galvanized steel frame with aluminium outer profiles. The standard size is 3,400 × 3,450 × 620 mm; production up to 4,200 × 4,500 × 1,000 mm is possible for special projects. Intermediate sizes are handled per project — trailer circumference and site frame dimensions are evaluated together at the quotation stage.

From energy to hygiene: The gains list

  • Cold storage: the shelter may help reduce exposure to outdoor air; the temperature and energy effect depends on the site.
  • Food and pharmaceuticals: suitability is assessed against the facility’s hygiene plan and selected materials; the shelter alone does not establish an unbroken hygiene chain.
  • Other facilities: weather protection depends on vehicle dimensions, docking and local conditions; complete exclusion of rain, wind, dust or pests is not guaranteed.

A full set with the leveler

The shelter is the natural partner of the dock leveler that bridges the height difference: the leveler connects the vehicle to the building floor, the shelter connects the building to the vehicle. Engineering the two together means a complete loading line — we covered that pairing in detail in our selection guide.

The shelter deserves to be assessed alongside the leveler in the loading project. Its dimensions, fabric and site conditions determine the suitable arrangement. The technical specification is on its product page; contact us to review your project requirements.
