The dock shelter surrounds the trailer when a vehicle docks, helping reduce the exposure of goods and personnel to outdoor weather. The degree of protection depends on vehicle dimensions, docking position and site conditions.
The NORMDOCK specification describes DIN 53352 / 53356 / 75200 requirements for the PVC fabric, a steel inner structure, an aluminium outer profile and a galvanised finish for metal parts. The standard size is 3,400 × 3,450 × 620 mm; other sizes up to 4,200 × 4,500 × 1,000 mm are listed on request.
Operating principle
Flexible PVC curtains work with the outer aluminium profile and inner steel structure as the vehicle docks. The manufacturer’s specification calls for a flexible, foldable shelter; this does not mean that the indoor area is completely isolated from the outside environment.
The standard size is stated in the specification; for special site requirements, project-based customisation is available. The colour swatch provides an option for other colours.
DIN standards — PVC fabric quality
The 2015 REV03 technical specification lists the following DIN references and values for the PVC fabric; it is not an independent certificate:
- DIN 53352 — Referenced alongside the specified 1,100 DTEX value for PVC fabric.
- DIN 53356 — Referenced for the stated tear and breaking strength values.
- DIN 75200 — Flammability requirement for the PVC fabric in the specification.
The fabric offered for a project should be checked against the specification values.

Construction details
- Outer surface — Special aluminium profile. Long life against corrosion + aesthetics.
- Inner construction — Steel profile described in the specification.
- All metal components — Galvanised finish required to limit corrosion.
- Corner joints — Special tenons. Interlocking joints instead of standard bolts.
- White bands on the front surface — For the load vehicle to approach the shelter at night (visibility).
