Overview

Within the swing-gate motor family, the one thing that sets SW2 apart is its mains voltage: it shares the same classic articulated-arm mechanism as the 24 V DC series (COUPER, JET, PRINCE) but feeds the installation directly from 220 V AC. On sites where battery backup never enters the picture — that is, where tolerance to power outages is not required — the mains is used directly as 220 V AC, with no additional 24 V conversion on the control board. The result is a simple site installation.

If outage tolerance is not required, SW2 is straightforward; if outage is critical, COUPER 24 continues with battery backup.

Target projects

  • Residential garden gate (no battery need, single-phase 220 V installation)
  • Small estate side entrance
  • Commercial car park / store side entrance
  • Workshop and small facility garden gate
  • Agricultural facility garden gate (if power outage is not an issue)

Field discipline

  • Confirm phase and earthing compatibility on the clamp connections from the schematic. 220 V AC drive is more sensitive than 24 V — incorrect earthing can blow the motor winding fuse.
  • Thermal protection — The 220 V AC motor also contains thermal protection like DC; in case of overload the board shuts itself down.
  • Hinge quality — Same as COUPER 24; sprung or well-bearing hinges reduce motor load.
  • A-E dimensions — Same installation diagram as COUPER 24; strut distance is selected according to the table in the PDF.
  • Periodic maintenance — Every 12 months 1 hinge lubrication + reducer check.

Model notes

Confirm phase and earthing compatibility on the clamp connections from the schematic. For wider leaves (over 2 m) or heavier doors (over 200 kg), PRINCE 24 should be evaluated with battery support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below we've compiled the most common questions and answers regarding this product.

  • What is the basic difference between SW2 and the 24 V swing gate models?

SW2 is an articulated-arm motor driven directly from a 230 V single-phase supply; in the 24 V DC range (COUPER 24, JET 24, PRINCE, LINEAR) the motor runs on low voltage and battery backup can be added through the G24 control unit. The practical consequence is this: if the gate must keep working during a power cut, the 24 V range is required, as SW2 does not cover that case. SW2 is rated for leaves up to 2 m and 200 kg, making it the lightest class in the family.

  • How do you choose between opening angles of 90, 100 and 110 degrees?

The angle sets where the leaf comes to rest when open, and it is configured together with the motor's arm geometry. What decides it are the physical obstacles on site: the wall the leaf approaches when open, the pillar setback, a kerb or a parked vehicle. 90 degrees is the most common application and opens the passage fully. Where the setback is deep, or the leaf should lie parallel to the wall, 100 or 110 degrees is used. Increasing the angle widens the area the leaf sweeps, so the decision is made by measuring on site before installation.
