Overview

Where the rest of the swing-gate range relies on an arm, LINEAR 400 takes a different route: instead of the classic articulated (COUPER) or telescopic (PRINCE) mechanism, it uses a linearly extending piston/actuator. It is the most powerful 24 V DC option in the up-to-3 m leaf length and 400 kg max door weight segment — a rugged, battery-backup-ready standard motor for wide leaves and heavy metal or wood residential doors.

Why piston-type mechanism?

The articulated (jointed) arm works smoothly with wall struts at a certain distance from the door hinge. On sites with deep struts + narrow wall clearance, the articulated arm falls short. The piston actuator moves in a single straight motion and can be placed perpendicular to the wall — there is no deep strut requirement.

→ For wide + heavy doors on sites with narrow wall clearance, LINEAR 400 is the first choice.

G24 universal control board

LINEAR 400 is driven by the G24 board. Same board as COUPER, JET and PRINCE — dealer stock strategy remains simple. In double-leaf systems, two motors are synchronised with the G24-MTS module.

  • 230 VAC input → 24 VDC output
  • 2 photocell channels (opening + closing)
  • 433 MHz rolling code receiver slot
  • Battery charger board compatibility — work continuity during power outages
  • Flasher + traffic light + electric lock terminals
  • Motor type selection via BT2: swing = D4 LED solid on

Target projects

  • Villa main entrance double-leaf gate (wide and heavy)
  • Residential garden heavy metal/wood gate
  • Wide-leaf estate internal additional entrance gate
  • Sites with deep struts + narrow wall clearance
  • Eco-house + solar-powered systems (24 V naturally)

Field discipline

  • Piston bearing lubrication — Lubricate piston body with liquid grease once every 12 months; dry operation wears the piston bearing.
  • Stroke length — Piston extends to 820 mm + extended stroke when fully open; wall clearance is established at measurement.
  • Power trimpot — G24 T1 trimpot is set to a high value for the 400 kg door; calibration is mandatory so as not to strain a light door.
  • Double-piston synchronisation — Two LINEAR 400 motors in a double-leaf system are driven with G24-MTS; follow the order in the document for sync limit setting.
  • Periodic maintenance — Once every 12 months piston lubrication + connection tightening + reducer check.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below we've compiled the most common questions and answers regarding this product.

  • When is a piston (linear actuator) motor the choice?

The piston type is a compact arrangement applying force linearly along the leaf, and the area it sweeps is smaller than that of an articulated arm. It is therefore preferred on entrances where the pillar setback is narrow and the arm has no room to trace its arc. LINEAR 400 is rated with its 120 W motor for leaves up to 3 m long and 400 kg. In a piston arrangement the opening angle is more sensitive to where the fixing points sit, so the mounting dimensions should be taken to the values in the manual.

  • LINEAR 400 and PRINCE 400 share the same capacity, so which should be chosen?

Both meet the 3 m leaf and 400 kg class with a 120 W motor; the difference lies in arm mechanics and therefore in mounting geometry. LINEAR is a piston type and wants a compact layout. PRINCE works with a telescopic arm, meaning one that extends as a single piece, and carries the leaf without trouble on entrances where the setback is deep. The choice becomes clear once the pillar thickness and the distance from the motor's fixing surface to the leaf hinge are measured. The telescopic arm wants regular lubrication, while the piston type has fewer maintenance items.
