What Determines the Cost of an Industrial Door?

Before comparing two door quotations by their totals, establish that they cover the same opening and equipment. This guide produces a scope record for comparing dealer quotations row by row. The dealer and project parties provide dimensions and application data; Alkur does not conduct site surveys. End-user sales and installation are handled through dealers, distributors or partners.

A sequence for comparing quotations

1. Match the opening and product. Are clear width/height, headroom, side clearances, lift arrangement or leveller type the same? Keep different openings or configurations separate.
2. Write the usage profile. Record peak-hour cycles and actual movement time alongside daily totals. Identify the model document supporting any “intensive use” description.
3. Separate motor, controller and limits. Model/revision, motor voltage, mains supply and limit type are distinct fields. Equal voltage does not establish equal duty class or compatibility.
4. List safety and access separately. Photocells, safety edges and STOP functions are distinct from remotes, keypads or number-plate recognition. Access permission does not replace obstacle detection.
5. Define delivery and installation boundaries. The partner’s quotation states who handles transport, unloading, building/electrical preparation, installation and commissioning.
6. Check documents and maintenance. Compare the proposed configuration’s manual, declaration/test scope, warranty terms and maintenance requirements. A component document is not complete-door conformity evidence.
7. Resolve differences. Obtain the dealer’s written clarification for missing rows; compare totals after the scopes match.

This guide supplies no prices, lead times or warranty periods. The comparison record uses only the information in the relevant quotation or contract.

Important distinctions by product group

For HPVC doors, the roll-up specification lists 0.65–0.70 m/s without an inverter and the folding specification 0.60–0.70 m/s; both list up to 1.5 m/s with an inverter. Their uprights are respectively 80 × 80 mm aluminium and 200 × 200 mm galvanised steel. Confirm these for the proposed configuration; they do not establish FU, I-380 or RAPID compatibility. BREAK OUT is optional in the roll-up specification, not automatically included on every HPVC door.

For sectional doors, lift arrangement, panel, hardware and spring class are separate cost items. The NORMTOR specification lists 15 000 standard spring cycles and 25 000/50 000/100 000 optional cycles. These are not motor duty limits, calendar life or warranty periods. Match the reinforcement specified for openings above 5 100 mm to the quotation. Do not assume standard lift is the cheapest arrangement for every project.

For loading systems, assess forklift plus load, platform, lip, pit drawing and shelter together. NORMDOCK’s 6 000 kg dynamic/9 000 kg static figures are not alternative moving-load ratings. Construction is recorded separately from product supply, with its own responsibility and scope.

For automation, compare motor and mains supplies, controller/limits, safety and access separately. Include battery operation only when the selected model’s documentation and quotation establish it; it is not a universal feature of 24 V motors.

The completed record

The record contains quotation date/revision, models and quantities, included/excluded items, responsible parties, referenced documents and open confirmations. Each uncertainty identifies the partner who will answer it and its decision status. This shows whether a price difference comes from product, equipment or service scope; the approved configuration can then be transferred to the order.
