r-tec Telescopic Automatic Door

The telescopic automatic door comes to the foreground in architectures where a wide transit is required but the side wall area is limited. In a standard sliding double-leaf system, each leaf slides to one side, while in the telescopic configuration two leaves fold in the same direction, providing 50% side wall savings.

Typical application areas

  • Airport and metro station wide transits
  • Shopping centre corridor entrances
  • Air-conditioned / cold storage zone transits
  • Luxury hotel main entrance

Technical specifications

  • Motor power: 100 W DC
  • Supply: 230 V (24 V option)
  • Protection class: IP23
  • Maximum transit width: ~4 m
  • Control board: r-tec R2
  • Selector: 5-mode (full open / half open / one-way / night / manual)
  • Hold-open time: 1–60 s (programmable)

Control and safety

The telescopic leaves are managed by the r-tec R2 control board; entry and exit radars detect the approaching person, and the safety photocell on the leaf travel path re-opens the leaf if it senses an obstacle while closing. For entrances that require emergency egress, a breakout chassis option lets the leaves be pushed outward to open. Against power loss, a battery / UPS backup brings the door to a safe position. Switching between full-open and half-open modes by traffic density preserves both transit comfort and thermal insulation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below we've compiled the most common questions and answers regarding this product.

  • When is a telescopic automatic door needed?

The telescopic arrangement exists for entrances where the passage is wide but the side wall allowance for the leaves to park in is limited. On a standard double, each leaf wants wall allowance equal to its own width; on a telescopic, the leaves gather one behind another, so the same passage can be opened with a shorter run of wall. Shopping centre entrances, hospital main entrances and buildings with columns along the facade are typical applications. In return the mechanism is more involved: because the leaves are dragged in sequence, the top guide and belt arrangement need more adjustment.

  • Why does the per-leaf weight limit drop on a telescopic door?

On a telescopic frame the limit is given as 4 × 60 kg, so the allowance per leaf is well below the 150 kg of a single leaf. The reason is the sequential dragging arrangement: as the outer leaf travels it pulls the inner one along with it, so in the worst case the drive is moving the weight of more than one leaf at once. Keeping leaf weight down therefore writes directly into the life of the mechanism, and the choice of glass thickness and profile section is more critical on telescopic projects. Calculating leaf weight at the measuring stage avoids changing the glass later.
