Selecting NORMTOR starts with the use and geometry of the opening, then brings the panel, drive and evidence into the same configuration. This guide takes engineers and technical buyers from the dimension form to a comparable quotation file using the NORMTOR families.
The decision sequence below is supported by the panel, lift, use, documentation and control details that follow.
In what order should the selection be made?
- State the opening’s purpose: dispatch, residential garage or a frontage prioritising visibility.
- Record clear dimensions, building status and ceiling/side clearances with the relevant form.
- Compare panel/infill and insulation requirements with the selected series’ documentation.
- Verify motor/controller pairing against usage, supply and limit type.
- Complete accessories and evidence for that same configuration; identify unresolved items in the quotation record.
The outcome is a door configuration with defined dimensions and equipment, rather than a series name alone. Site measurement and installation belong to the dealer or project technical team; Alkur does not perform site surveys.
Which panel construction and insulation requirement?
A single panel specification cannot be applied to every NORMTOR series. The industrial door specification and garage door specification describe their sandwich panels as 40 mm thick, with a 40 kg/m³ polyurethane core between galvanised steel sheets of 0.40 mm thickness. Those figures describe the relevant panel type.
The Full Vision specification instead describes a different panel construction with an aluminium frame and light-transmitting infill. Polyurethane core density for a sandwich panel is not a general Full Vision characteristic or requirement. A panel’s sound or thermal data also cannot be assigned automatically to the complete installed door. State the series, panel type and required door performance separately, then check each value against current documentation for the quoted configuration.
Which track type matches the architecture?
The sectional door track determines the path the door follows while opening. Wrong selection creates conflict with ceiling installations, difficulty in installation/removal, and unnecessary loss of space. Standard, vertical, high-lift and pitched track options are assessed against the project geometry. High-lift is not an automatic choice when ceiling clearance is insufficient. Measure headroom, track depth along the ceiling and service obstructions on site, then compare them with the approved drawing for the selected track.
Opening dimensions and usage intensity
Assess opening width and height together with the selected series’ limits and track arrangement. A hangar door may be a separate option where an industrial sectional door does not fit the opening. No fixed number of daily openings automatically determines a door series or motor; establish the project’s expected cycle count and operating conditions.
The garage door specification lists a 100,000-cycle torsion spring as an option. This is neither a service-life rating nor a warranty in years for the entire door. Select the spring, operator and controller together for the expected use and the relevant model documents, and establish maintenance requirements for the selected equipment.
Which certificates are mandatory, which are preferred?
The required document set changes with the market, tender and proposed door configuration. Instead of extending a document name to the entire product family, its scope, validity and revision should be matched before contract:
- CE documentation: the declaration and technical-file scope for the applicable product are verified together with the proposed dimensions and components.
- EAC and Domestic Product: assessed only when required by the relevant market or tender, using the product scope and validity date printed on the document.
Record the issuer or declarant, document type and product scope together in the quotation. This identifies whether the submitted evidence is a panel report, drive document or complete-door declaration.
Three main series — which one for which application?
There are three different product families under the NORMTOR umbrella:
Industrial — industrial facility, logistics
The industrial sectional door is assessed for production sites, warehouses and workshop entrances against the opening and track requirements. The technical specification gives RAL 9002 as the standard colour for its sandwich panel; other RAL colours can be requested. Confirm opening limits and track layout against the current drawing for the proposed door.
Garage — residential and villa
4 panel heights (460/500/560/610 mm), surface models described in the technical specification, –30 °C flexible rubber seal and a 100,000-cycle torsion spring option. Plexiglass windows and service doors can be added; performance classes must be verified from the selected garage configuration’s own documentation.
Full Vision — showroom, display
Aluminium 1.3 mm frame + 3 mm plexiglass infill, max. 5,000 × 6,000 mm. Transparent structure; for car galleries, retail displays and open-front café applications.
Motor and control selection
The automation side is not independent while the door is being developed; it should be evaluated within the same package.
The 380A/encoder and I-380/mechanical-limit distinction in this list is confirmed by the product owner; it is not inferred from a general cable warning in the manual. Exact motor-board wiring must still be verified for the installed models and revisions.
-
220-K — The manual lists 380 VAC three-phase input and motor output. The 220 in the name does not indicate single-phase supply; motor, limits and board compatibility are verified separately.
-
380A and I-380 controllers: the larger 380A board is used with electrical-encoder motors, while I-380 is for mechanical-limit-switch motors only. Verify exact wiring against approved model documentation.
-
FU controller: a single-phase-input inverter application; verify pairing with the selected HPVC or sliding motor separately.
Motor and controller options are offered in the r-tec brand portfolio; verify the door, motor and controller pairing against the documents for the quoted configuration.
Specification checklist
These fields must describe the same door when reviewing a quotation. Identify the document or project input still needed rather than guessing an empty field.
| Decision field | Information to record | What it distinguishes |
|---|---|---|
| Series and panel/infill | Industrial, garage or Full Vision; selected construction | Prevents transferring panel data between series. |
| Size and lift | Clear opening, form/revision and track layout | Separates standard sizes from actual positioning. |
| Motor and controller | Model, supply and limit type | Separates verified pairing from assumptions based on names. |
| Usage and spring | Peak usage and selected spring cycle rating | Separates component cycles from door lifetime in years. |
| Accessories and evidence | Included equipment, document/scope/revision | Separates requested and offered features. |
| Warranty and maintenance | Scope in the relevant document/contract | Prevents reading spring cycles as warranty duration. |
The dealer, distributor or partner completes the file with resolved and pending items. Pre-production size confirmation and installed-function checks at handover are different records.
