What Domestic Manufacturing Means: Not a Slogan, an Engineering Investment

Why a domestic-manufacturing claim must be read through the separate scopes of a technical specification, test report and valid conformity document when buying.

What Domestic Manufacturing Means: Not a Slogan, an Engineering Investment

“Domestic manufacturing” is one of those phrases worn thin by overuse. It looks good on a label and draws applause in a speech; on its own, it answers no technical question. For us, the phrase gains its meaning the moment a certificate is pinned next to it.

NORMDOCK dock leveller and hydraulic platform installation

Two products, two different evidence layers

In our company narrative, the NORMDOCK dock leveller and ALKUR HPVC are milestones in developing domestic alternatives to imported solutions. A manufacturing history and technical evidence are not the same thing, however. The published NORMDOCK manufacturer specification says that the hinged leveller should comply with EN 1398 and describes its components; it is not an independent CE certificate or evidence for a “first in Turkey” claim. The current conformity file must be checked against the exact leveller configuration offered.

The accessible TÜV NORD record for HPVC is only the first page of a 13-page technical report dated 14 May 2010. That cover identifies the product examined on 19 March 2010 as a Type ECO high-speed roll-up fabric door with an Mtec drive. It is not a series certificate and cannot be generalized to today’s HPVC family, the folding variant, cycle endurance or a market-first claim. It remains useful historical evidence that this particular specimen entered an independent test process.

Who is the certificate for?

When a tender asks for a Domestic Product Certificate or a conformity file, the product scope, certificate holder and validity date must be checked together, not just the document’s name. A CE mark, a third-party test report and a Domestic Product Certificate answer different questions; none substitutes for another. Presenting an old report as a performance guarantee for today’s whole product family weakens, rather than strengthens, the evidence behind domestic manufacturing.

The invisible return of domestic

There is also the matter of distance. Manufacturing in Hendek means a technical question can be asked of the manufacturer in your own language, a spare part arrives without crossing an ocean, and a custom dimension can be discussed directly with the factory. The flexibility that ends at the catalogue with an imported product begins at the production line with a domestic one.

Domestic manufacturing can be a reason to choose, but we would rather that choice be based on a file whose scope and date are explicit. You can review current records and historical documents separately on our certificates page, then confirm the valid technical and conformity file for your project at quotation stage.
