Overview
Rapid PVC doors enable the entry-exit of transport vehicles such as forklifts with high opening-closing speed and also establish insulation against factors such as odour, heat, dust and wind between spaces. The folding type HPVC opens the fabric surface by folding it laterally with an accordion logic. Unlike the high-speed roll variant, it offers high wind resistance with galvanised steel 200 × 200 mm side posts + Ø25 mm tube reinforcement; used in wide openings and indoor + outdoor environments where wind speed is high.
Folding vs High-speed roll — construction difference
Compared with the high-speed roll type, the folding type contains a stronger frame + fabric stiffening; this provides performance in conditions where the high-speed roll cannot operate.
| Feature | High-speed roll | Folding |
|---|---|---|
| Side post | 80 × 80 mm aluminium (RAL 9006) | 200 × 200 mm galvanised steel |
| Drum | Ø125 mm aluminium | Ø114 mm tube |
| Fabric reinforcement | None | Ø25 mm galvanised tube lines |
| Opening | Medium — forklift traffic | Wide — 5 m+ opening |
| Aesthetics | Sleek aluminium (indoor) | Industrial (outdoor) |
| BREAK OUT bottom impact | Optional | (none — not needed structurally) |
| Speed (without inverter) | 0.65 – 0.70 m/s | 0.60 – 0.70 m/s |
| Speed (with inverter) | 1.2 m/s | 1.5 m/s |
→ Up to 5 m opening + indoor = High-speed roll; 5 m+ opening or windy site = Folding.
Structural features
- Side post — 200 × 200 mm galvanised steel. 6 times higher strength than the 80 × 80 mm aluminium of the high-speed roll HPVC. Mandatory for wind pressure + vehicle impact resistance.
- Drum — Ø114 mm tube, mounted on the top rail. The fabric is gathered to the side on this rail while folding.
- Fabric reinforcement — Ø25 mm galvanised tube at certain intervals along the vertical axis. Prevents fabric breakage + fatigue in the folding construction.
- Side bearings — 3 mm special laser-cut galvanised. Aesthetics + mechanical protection together.
- Fabric — 900 g/m² panama-weave imported PVC; same material as the high-speed roll. Transparent window optional.
Motor + control selection
Same RAPID motor series + control unit options as the high-speed roll HPVC:
- Without inverter (I-380): 0.60 – 0.70 m/s, mechanical 3-phase control, simple.
- With inverter (FU): 1.5 m/s, soft start/stop, integrated encoder.
5 RAPID motors (35 / 45 / 75 / 85 / 180 Nm) are selected according to door size. Detailed motor selection table is in the PDF technical specification.
Target projects
- Industrial ramp entrances — Wide openings with high open-close cycles, exterior façade.
- High-ceilinged warehouses with air loads — Wind currents + high volume.
- Semi-open production lines — Separation between open production area and indoor space.
- External façade loading doors — Logistics facility truck ramp entry.
- Ports + shipyards — Heavy wind-loaded sites.
- Wide-opening logistics facilities — 5 m+ opening required.
- Agriculture + livestock facilities — Outdoor + large vehicle transit.
- Cold storage wide openings — When the high-speed roll is insufficient.
Evidence scope
The conformity file for a folding HPVC door is verified against the proposed dimensions and hardware combination. The archived 2010 TÜV NORD cover identifies a Type ECO high-speed foil door with an Mtec drive and is only page 1 of a 13-page report. The old EAC copy identifies NORMTOR products, not ALKUR HPVC. Neither historical record is transferred to the folding variant as evidence of performance or current market conformity.
Field discipline
- Opening size — For openings under 5 m, the high-speed roll type may be more compact than folding; get the suitable variant recommendation from our dealers with the dimension verification form.
- Wind load — For outdoor or harbour applications, wind pressure calculation must be done; in extreme conditions the Ø25 mm tube reinforcement spacing can be increased (custom manufacturing).
- Mains — Same as the high-speed roll: 380 V three-phase (I-380 or FU) or 230 V single-phase (FU).
- Fabric wear — In the folding geometry, fatigue may occur at the lower + upper joint points of the fabric; in periodic maintenance, fabric + joint profile + tube reinforcement check is carried out.
- Periodic maintenance — Every 6 months 1 upper rail + side bearing galvanising + motor thermal check. Every 3 months in port/outdoor environments.
Model notes
The folding type is preferred when a 5 m+ wide opening or a windy site requires it. For indoor and medium openings (under 4-5 m), the ALKUR High-Speed Roll Type HPVC may offer a more compact solution. Final model, motor and evidence scope are verified together for the project configuration.
In which sectors is it used?

Frequently Asked Questions
Below we've compiled the most common questions and answers regarding this product.
-
How do we decide between the folding type and the high-speed roll type HPVC?
The folding type offers high wind resistance with a 200 × 200 mm galvanised steel side post and Ø25 mm tube reinforcement; it is preferred for 5 m+ wide openings or windy outdoor sites. For indoor openings under 5 m, the more compact high-speed roll type may be suitable. You can determine the right variant together with our dealers using the dimension verification form.
-
What is the opening speed of the door and how is the motor selected?
The speed is 0.60 – 0.70 m/s with the standard model and 1.5 m/s with the frequency-inverter (FU) model. The motor is chosen from the RAPID series (35 / 45 / 75 / 85 / 180 Nm) according to door size; the detailed motor selection table is provided in the technical specification PDF.
-
Which control unit and mains voltage are used?
An I-380 (3-phase control) is used for the inverter-free application, while a FU frequency inverter offering soft start/stop and an integrated encoder is used for the inverter application. It is compatible with 380 V 3-phase or 230 V single-phase mains; FU control is preferred on single-phase supply.
-
Is a transparent window option available and what fabric is used?
The fabric is the same 900 g/m² panama-weave imported PVC material as the high-speed roll type. A transparent window of any desired size is optional, providing visibility and safety on the industrial site.
-
How is the evidence scope verified for a folding HPVC door?
The conformity file is checked against the proposed dimensions, supporting structure, fabric, safety equipment, motor and controller. The archived 2010 Type ECO report cover and the old EAC record issued for NORMTOR do not automatically apply to a folding HPVC door.
