A door’s working life continues beyond dispatch. Installation, commissioning, regular checks and replacement parts are connected; their responsibilities should be agreed when the door is selected.
Act one: Birth
On the lines in Hendek, panels are pressed, springs are calculated and boards are tested. One important choice is the spring cycle class. The NORMTOR industrial technical specification lists 15 000 cycles for the standard torsion spring and 25 000, 50 000 or 100 000 cycles as options. These ratings describe a spring component; they do not, by themselves, establish how many years the installed door will operate. Assess the usage profile and complete door configuration together.
Act two: First day in the field
The door ships with installation instructions and technical drawings; the project team handles installation and commissioning. A balance test, photocell check and manual-release trial are important first-day checks. The manufacturer’s role here is to provide the correct drawing and clear instructions for the selected system.
Act three: The quiet years
The door opens and closes; throughout regular use, safety devices and moving parts are checked against the current maintenance instructions for the selected system. The inspection interval and scope cannot be reduced to one universal annual rule; they depend on the door configuration and site conditions. Use current manufacturer documents for parts compatibility and technical questions.
Act four: The second life of the parts
Springs fatigue, cables wear and seals harden; their condition is assessed during maintenance. Select replacement parts against the installed door model and the current manufacturer catalogue. A spring cycle rating does not guarantee the calendar life of the whole door or parts availability for a stated number of years. The selected system’s documents determine compatible parts and maintenance scope.
