ALKUR Folding HPVC: The High-Speed Door That Faces the Wind

Where the spiral type ends, the folding type begins: the high-speed PVC door for wide openings, with 200 × 200 mm steel posts and tube-stiffened curtain.

Say “high-speed PVC door” and the spiral type comes to mind first: the curtain wraps onto a drum above and opens in seconds. But what happens when the opening exceeds five metres and the facade is exposed to wind? The spiral’s comfort zone ends, and the ALKUR folding-type HPVC begins.

Folding instead of wrapping

In the folding type, the curtain doesn’t wrap onto a drum; it gathers upward, folding along horizontal lines. The secret of this architecture is in the Ø25 mm galvanized tube lines inside the curtain: each tube gives the fabric a horizontal spine. When wind loads on, the flexible cloth doesn’t belly out like a sail; it transfers the load through the tube lines into the carrying structure.

And that carrying structure takes its job seriously: 200 × 200 mm galvanized steel side posts are the answer to the wide opening and the wind load. The side plates are 3 mm special laser-cut galvanized; the Ø114 mm drum forms the compact top package of the folding arrangement.

No compromise on speed

The folding type doesn’t trade its speed for endurance: the inverter-driven model keeps the 1.5 m/s opening speed. The curtain is again 900 gr/m² panama-weave imported PVC — the same cloth as its spiral sibling, the same TÜV NORD + EAC certificate set. In other words, the folding type is not a “durable but slow” compromise; it is the wide-opening specialist of the same speed class.

Where folding, where spiral?

The criterion fits in two words: opening and wind. In standard internal passages and sheltered facades, the spiral type wins on simplicity; at openings above 5 m and in outdoor applications, the folding type takes over. Both types ship automation-ready with the r-tec RAPID motor and control family.

If you have an opening above five metres facing the wind, the folding type probably belongs on your list. The specification table and certificate set are on the product page; for the spiral-or-folding dilemma, one message is enough — write to us and we’ll settle it together.
